So while browsing Lifehacker trying to perfect being a hipster and learn revolutionary new life techniques that anyone isn't a mouth breather should already know, I came across something that was actually useful.
This handy little chrome extension routes traffic through the chrome data compression proxy, which...has the side effect of bypassing server white lists, at least where I work.
Give it a try, it may work for you.

Top Tip! Thanks.
I don't need it now, but who knows about tomorrow or the day after.
I've had to get creative before...

Is there a similar extension for Firefox?

Looks like being an IT guy at work has its bonuses. No filters. :D

I miss those days. Now I get to be a corporate drone like everyone else, and the sys admins are my enemy. Damn fun police.

Did you have to do anything after installing the extension? I can't get to any sites when it's enabled.

Restarted Chrome. There should be a green icon at the top right, green circle with a lightning bolt though it. Clicking it will turn off the proxy use, changes to red.
The only sites I can't get to via it are ones blocked by work that use HTTPS, but everything else works for me.

Yeah, I tried all that. The only things I can get to are google-related websites like gmail.
